English Studies For Primary Schools 1

English Studies for Primary Schools, Book 1 follows the New Lower Basic Education Curriculum for Primary English Year 1 developed by the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC). The topics treated in each module correspond to the topics in each theme in the curriculum – Phonics, Phonological Awareness, Phonemic Awareness, Listening and Speaking, Grammatical Accuracy, Reading and Writing.

This book teaches every aspect of the Primary School Curriculum in a lively and an interesting way. It contains colourful illustrations and simple sentences that describe things that pupils at this level do, see or hear every day.

It emphases good spoken English used by speakers of English all over the world. It also gives pupils adequate practice in English sounds that are often found confusing or difficult to pronounce by the various language groups in the country. Grammatical concepts have not only been treated in a simple way that makes for clear understanding but also very well illustrated. Writing exercises have also been introduced to develop the pupils’ handwriting skills and support their oral reading work.

ESPS Book 1 has short footnotes for teachers to make teaching more effective and less cumbersome.

It has an accompanying ESPS Workbook 1 to help the pupils practise what is being taught in the classroom and a Teachers’ Guide to assist the teachers.
